Ricardo Sanchis Carpio, 1968, classical guitar repair.

I was gifted this classical guitar by a luthier friend from
Auckland. The back had serious damage so I removed
the back in order to access the damaged area.

Several braces were split from the impact that damaged the
back panel.

There were several long cracks that needed attention.

I cut a new piece of mahogany and fitted it as carefully as
I could to the missing back section.

I cut back the enormous birch plywood patch and the nasty cleat that had
been hide glued to the damaged areas.

once fine sanded I set about attempting to match the
mahogany colour to the patch.

Next it was time to re-attach the back to the body.
This is a great opportunity to correctly align the neck for
ideal string height. I use a spirit level as a splint to hold
the ideal neck angle as the back is glued and clamped into
position on the body.

Such a lovely inlaid wooden rosette.

It's amazing how unifying a clear coat can be!

This is a very good classical guitar. I gifted it to my
step son who is a gifted musician and guitarist.
